BCD lebih kompleks dan tidak kompatibel dengan skema booting yang ada di versi Windows lainnya.

Sementara untuk Windows 2000 dan XP, user dapat melakukan boot dari OS yang dipilih. Jika ingin setup computer yang dapat booting beberapa OS Windows yang berbeda versi, maka Anda sebaiknya mengikuti aturan berikut :

• Anda bisa meng-instal setiap OS ke dalam volume disk yang berbeda, atau membuat multi partisi berbeda di satu harddisk, atau menggunakan multi harddisk.
• Jika Anda meng-instal multi versi Windows 7 di computer yang sama, maka Anda harus meng-instal setiap versi dalam volume disc yang terpisah.
• Meng-instal versi Windows dimulai dari yang versi lama ke baru, seperti contoh mulai dari Windows Me, kemudian XP, baru Windows 7.
